Resetting the light on your '01 Civic is simple...

With the ignition turned off, push and hold the trip odometer button...
keep the button pushed in while you turn the ignition on (so that the lights come on the dash) without starting the engine.
After holding the button in for a few seconds, the M.R. light will go out.
At this point, you can release the button, turn the ignition off, and then start the engine. The M.R. light should be on for a second and then go out, and stay out.

So...
1. push in trip odometer reset button (ignition off)
2. hold button in, turn ignition on (without starting)

It's that simple!
I hope it works for you.

p.s.: If anyone needs to know how to reset the M.R. light or Change Oil Soon light on other year, makes and models... let me know, I have a manual at work for almost all makes and models.

Will do Marty.

I know, I drove around for like a month in my 01 coupe with the m.r. light on. I couldn't believe how easy it was to reset when I finally figured it out.

uhm.... your friend has his Maintenance Required light on, or Check Engine light? -there's a slight difference...m.r. light is just a reminder to take your car back to Honda... check engine light means that there's something wrong.
