Cutting performance springs?

My springs on my car right now are only like a 1" drop I beleive. I've heard you can cut springs to the desired height, I was just wondering your opinions on that and if anyone has done it/knows how to do it.
Thanks for the help

You should be okay if you cut a dead coil or two, but I wouldn't recommend cutting any more than that.

It's never ok to cut a coil or two. The spring won't sit right on it's perch if you cut coils.
It's also not advisable to heat the spring's to get them to lower, your weakening the steel and could break on you.
Why not just buy some cheap R1's if you wanna go the cheap route?

some performance springs have notches on them already if you need to cut them

Some springs have dead coils like Kevin said... Coils that are compressed and touching each other when on the car... they are NOT really part of the spring and can be cut. When cutting, always cut a FULL coil, not 1/2, not 3/4.

Yeah, heating the springs is out of the question.

I have been in a couple of cars with cut springs and the ride was a$$..

Sell them and buy an other pair at the desired height.

Big diff between cutting springs, and cutting DEAD springs. I won't get into it, but unless you know what you are doing, I agree with 94EG6HB
