belts/pulley making rattling/squealing noise..

Hi there,

Recently I noticed my car when at neutral, there is a pretty loud annoying squealing sound coming from the belt/pulley area. I might assume it may be the bearing on the ac compressor as a possible cause. Is there a way for me to check where the source of the squealing/rattling noise is? Few months prior to this I also heard it but mildly. Mainly when I am accelerating at the low end of the gear ie at 20km in gear 1, 40 in gear 2.... there wuold be a slight squealing sound from the same area. Hope this might help in the diagnostic..

Thanks.

well it could also be belt tention... or just the belt itself...if u touch a bar of soap (acts as a lubrication) on the belt while its moving and the noise goes away, then its just a noisy belt/maybe tention and not a alt bearing...
