Rattling Noise at WOT

I've noticed this rattling noise recently coming from my engine bay. At WOT, or close to it, around 3000rpm (or lower but i never stomp on it that low) I hear this inconsistent rattling. Kind of like a "ping pang tick" noise. The noises are at a low fequency too, like "ping........tick.......pang...." It sounds like something is just bouncing around in my engine, or if you dropped a penny on the floor, but it only does this at lower rpm and a lot of throttle. Maybe it is just that I can't hear it a higher rpm or something or when the engine isn't quiet. Anyways, my car used to make this noise, but I just figured it was a heat shield somewhere. I had a header, cat, catback installed and it went away. Now it's creeping back and slowly becoming worse.

Any ideas?

sounds to me like you have preigniton/detonation/knock/pinging

keep it up and you'll blow your motor

try filling up with 94 octane and see if it continues. if it does NOT continue, then you need to look into why your motor is running lean/timing is off. If it still continues, then you must start with ignition timing first. This alone should solve the problem. If this still does not solve your problem, check for plugged injectors, or low fuel pressure. get back to us. also, what kinda plugs you runnin?

NOTE: this is KNOCK, it's a very serious problem

Just when I thought my Y7 was indestrucable...I think I'm going to get Valve adjustment soon and see what happens. I was running 91 octane for a few tanks a few tanks ago and it wasn't doing this.

Thank for the help Dick McNasty. I'll let you know what happens.

it could be something loose in the engine bay...

can you pin point a specific area in your engine bay it is coming from?

When is the last time you did anything under the hood?

common JSK... pinging under HIGH LOAD and LOW RPM... those are classis symptoms, also he said 91 octane made it go away.

I think maybe someone advanced the timing like a mook

How would I have advanced the timing though?

When I put my intake on I flashed the chip or whatever...when you unhook the battery, etc...It's been a close to 2 months since then and I've had my exhuast for about 3-4 weeks.

Engine wise, yes. I have suspension and rims too. Strut tower bars front and back.

new plugs or anythign lately? loosened the distributor? it may not even be you... previous owner maybe? or maybe some sensors went out, causing detonation? I'd have lordm check the sensor readouts. check your timing with a timing light. if those check out, and your plugs are normal copper NGKs of the correct heat range, then perhaps carbon deposits are to blame.

Matt and jamie did the suspension and intake on my car, so it's good that you recommend him i guess since we're already acquainted. I've been meaning to check/change my plugs for about a month and I'll start running high octane fuel next tank.
