Paperclip method to check for ecu codes

Has anyone checked for codes using the paper clip wire jumping method? I have an EK and the ABS light blinks rather than the Check Engine Light. Is this normal?

I threw a code 16 (fuel injectors) and also a code 18. Couldn't find anything on what code 18 means. Anyone have a clue?

I don't see an 18 either, maybe your reading the code wrong perhaps?
