overheating?

It happen about 3 weeks ago. My temperature gauage went up to almost 3/4 high while I am on the highway (after around 10 minutes). When I noticed it, I turned on the heat to full blast and It dropped back to normal (below 1/2). I did a flush and refill of coolant.....still the same, again, it only happen on highway and it went to normal when I turn on the heat. And temperature is normal in city driving. The fan works. I am going to bring it to the mechanics soon. By the way....the car drive fine no any noticable problem. No lost of coolant either.

Do you guys think it's the themostat????? I just want some opinion before I go in to the shop.

Thanks

Nate

I had the exact same problem. Replace your rad, it'll go away.

I would remove the thermostat entirely....just to be safe.

Err, your thermostat actually aids in cooling. Think about it, without the thermostat your engine coolant would be in constant circulation never having a chance to cool in the rad. Removing the thermostat would only hinder engine cooling.

Think about it, the coolant is always circulating, not giving it time to get to hot to overheat your motor. I've removed all the t-stats in all of my cars and I have no heating problems. My 99' had a problem in traffic with overheating, pulled the t-stat and it's fine now.

Question

Is it normal in this kind of extreme hot weather for the temp gauge to go to the high range in regular city driving (stop and go)?
