Overheating Problem Please HELP!

I have been having a problem with my car overheating and was told by the dealer that I should do my thermostat. So I did my thermostat and still no change with the problem. So I went back told them that nothing changed and he said well you have two more options. The Water temp sensor or thermostat sensor. I did the water temp sensor and still no change.

So I went to a local guy and asked if he could look at it. So he tells me that my car was up to 190 when the fan came on but came on then it shut off and then came back on. After that them temp went down and then the temprature went up to 230 befor it even came on. He also told me that it going that high will damage my head gasket.

So I made apointment for them to look at it on Thursday and also I have a extended warrenty from them.

Is this going to be covered or does someone have an idea of whats going on or maybe had the same problem. All input on this would be great.

Also my car is a 1998 Honda Civic LX with factory engine with no mods to it.

Thanks All

So from what I have gathered... your fan isn't coming on when it should right? Easy way to find out if that's the problem is to hardwire your radiator fan so it turns the minute the car starts. If the car never overheats again, then it's either you temp sensors controlling the fan.

If it still overheats when the fan comes on: leaking gasket.

Also then if the fan keeps it cool then it could be what??

Well, having the fan going all the time and your car is not overheating suggests that the temp sensors which trigger the fan needs replacing. I wouldn't recommend you to leave your fan like that if it's under warranty, just get it fixed. If you are out of warranty and are looking for a cheap fix, just look the fan up to a switch inside the car, and flick it on when you notice the car is overheating a little.
