Oil Change

Any sites for oil changes?

Any DIY sites for changing oil on hondas? I know its a dumb question, but Im going to attempt it this week, and want to know if I need a new washer on the drain bolt, as well as how tight to tighten to the bolt etc.

thanks.

Get the filters from Honda......Richmond Hill Honda has them......3 filters for $20.....and they come with the washers.

Ask for Marvin.......Tell him PULOVR sent you.

EZ to do man...filter is at the back of the block...warm up the oil by running the car a little while, then let is sit outside for the exhaust to cool so as not to burn yourself. Drain all the oil (think it's a 17mm socket, and yes you will need a new crush washer) The filter is above the axle, under the intake manifold, if you get yourself deep enough you can't miss it. Use a filter wrench to loosen it. Spin it off fast, and as soon as you feel it let go, just tip it up, else you will spill all the oil in the old filter on your face Now, if everything has been drained well, put the new washer on your plug and tighten it slowly...you will feel the new washer "give" stop right there...so you don't strip the threads. There is no need to make anything too tight! Fill your new filter w/ oil...and fill it, and fill it....it should weigh about the same as your old filter when you are done...a lot of fluid goes in! And it takes a while for it to get in there. Once done, use some clean oil to lubricate the rubber seal around the filter seating surface. Now, put your hand in there with the filter vertically...so as once again not to spill oil on your face. Line it up with the big threaded oil filter ... thing on the block and quickly start the threads. You will spill some oil, but don't worry about it, it'll burn off, and you will wipe up most of it anyways, right? Now! This is important!! Hand tighten the oil filter, then wipe it with a rag or shop towel, then take a clean shop towel, and wrap it around the filter for better grip, and HAND TIGHTEN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN That's it! Do not use a filter wrench to tighten the oil filter...that is a huge mistake! It will not leak oil even hand tight. Ok, now fill your engine with the recommended weight, high quality fluid. If you have over 100K kms, and have not used synthetic since new, don't start now. It may burn synthetic oil. So, mineral is prolly fine for you. Put in 3.2 liters of oil in, and disconnect the distributor lead wire...crank for 10 seconds. Reconnect the wire and start the car. This will have circulated some oil through the block so as not to have a harsh start up. Let it idle for a bit, then check the oil and add. Remember that it takes a while for the engine oil to reach the oil pan, so wait a bit, and do not overfill. Capacity in the manual says somewhere around 4 liters I think, but not all the oil drains out, so be careful. Also, if upon startup the oil press light goes on and isn't out by the time the engine runs, shut it off immediately and check your work (drain plug, filter, filling).
