DOHC non v tec vs SOHC v tec
#21
I personally say SOHC V-TEC...
If memory serves me right.. some of the nice Acuras out there are SOHC V-TEC... the new TL is one of them. 270 ponies from a SOHC.. that's impressive. Oh.. and it produces 238 lbs-ft of torque...
But than again... DOHC with no valve timing is also good in many cases...
The older Lexus use to come in DOHC with no valve timing... older SC400 and LS400... they were the ones with 250 HP. That's pretty impressive assuming no variable valve timing... Oh.. and it has 260 lbs-ft of torque (if memory serves).
Agree? Disagree? I think both of them are just as good as each other depending....

Well Variable timing is nice. You get that extra kick ONLY, when you need it. So it saves fuel.
But then I think each motor serves a different driver. I also like the B16 for the high RPMs. I just love the sound of high revs you hear in race cars. But also, I really like a torquey motor as well. I hate it when a traffic light turns green and everyone starts passing me until I reach 5000rpm and finally catch up with them
So I would say that you have to look at your driving style and what kindda activity you want to do with your car, and then pick a motor.
I personally like to be VERY involved with driving my car. I rev it, shift alot with heel-toe, and I like to control the throttle a lot. My pick then, would be b16. I don't need THAT much torque anyway. If I did, I would buy a car with a nice V6 in it.
