DOHC non v tec vs SOHC v tec

Just wanted to get some opinions on this. Does anyone know which is the better of the two?

punkindrublic 26-Feb-2004 07:01 PM

dohc non vtec

imported_loudsubz 26-Feb-2004 07:05 PM

DOHC vtec :D

but really there is no clear "winner" here

both can be good motors, depends what your plans are

GinoLicious 26-Feb-2004 07:08 PM

GOtta love the V Tec.

punkindrublic 26-Feb-2004 07:16 PM

well stock a b18B is better then any d16z6 or y8.... displacement plays into that though.... technically if you bored or stroked a d16 to 1.8L it would probably make more hp and possibly torque

I like the high RPM redlines of the VTEC engines, what do the non VTEC DOHC motors redline at? I had a 5.0 stang b4 my Si and I fell in love with shifting a 7200 RPM!!!

depend's on the engine

bdotdan 26-Feb-2004 07:38 PM

high rev = no torque
id go with a DOHC non v-tec myself

imported_BeerBaron105 26-Feb-2004 07:39 PM

b18b around 6800 but fuel cut is higher, d16z6 i think fuelcut is 7200 redline is 6900 or 7000

get a b16, 8200 y0!! lol

SOHC in my opinion...

F22 accord engine has mad torque....

punkindrublic 26-Feb-2004 07:53 PM

d16z6 fuel cut off is 7500... i'd probably take a b20 cause of the low end of all power....

reddevilcivic 26-Feb-2004 07:56 PM

not bad but nobody ever talks about a d15 b1

Brett 27-Feb-2004 08:47 AM

I'd say DOHC non of SOHC vtec, i've always thought that 2 cam shafts are better then one!

imported_BoOsTd 27-Feb-2004 09:17 AM

DOHC non vtec. sweet boosting engine, can take lots of spray.. even in stock form hands down over a sohc vtec.

B20 happily revs to 7200 RPM, that were the fuel cut of is set on my hyperduck ecu

DOHC non-VTEC gets my vote

bbarbulo 27-Feb-2004 02:40 PM

DOHC non VTEC

2 cams are better than 1

imported_Urbanconcept 27-Feb-2004 10:37 PM

ok to clear things up....

I vouch for the DOHC non VTEC... why u ask... b/c u cant compare the D series stock on stock against the Bseries non vtec...

though HP is only what 13HP difference... there is no competetion whereas, the B18 is more competitive with the B16

so in actuality the D series Sohc vtec is not even worth comparing the 2 motors.

the Dohc non vtec has alot of potential... and so does the D series VTEC.

but stock on stock... DOHC non VTEC will smoke it by a long shot...
booooo to 7200RPM..... TORQUE is what wins races!
