yes, private property is just that... highway traffic act need not apply... because its... not a public highway. Totally unregulated!! I can do donuts on my front lawn if I want....

BUT, you can't be in control of (ie. have keys to) a motor vehicle drunk... no matter private property or not. Just FYI

I was hit by a woman in the mall's parking lot, which happens to be private property. But anyway, cop came and did report, but wasn't filed under HTA.

But the moment you are engaged with a moving vehicle, you should always have your license, insurance and plates with you. I know we don't take our wallets with us when we change cars on the driveway, or drive the car from the driveway to the side street and all that, but you get the picture.

I don't know but I've heard that it can be excusable to not have your licence with you, as long as your in a certain Km distance from your house?

A few years back my freind got hit by an old lady (it wasn't private property). When the cop came she said she didn't have her licence, but she only lived like 3km away from the scene of the accident. The cop didn't even give her a warning.

hehehe if your drunk then your not in control of much? I think you mean you can't be behind the wheel........

"but, officer I wasn't in control of my car so you can't charge me with DUI"

You can still be charged with careless driving on private property. From what I understand that is the only charge that can be laid on private property.
