which tranny?

Ive got both of these trannys, the m2a4 is lower milage , but im curious which one is better to use. Im thinking the m2a4 would be better for 1/4 mile and the m2f4 would be better for highway use?

M2F4 92-96 Prelude VTEC 3.307 1.950 1.360 1.071 0.870 ?? 4.266
M2A4 92-96 Prelude VTEC (JDM H22A w/o LSD) 3.307 1.950 1.160 1.034 0.787 ?? 4.266

Looking at those ratios, the M2F4 has the closer gears, but only on 3rd gear and up. 1st and 2nd gears are the same, and the final drives are the same.

The M2A4 would be better on the highway for fuel mileage.

Slightly, yes. 3rd gear looks quite a bit shorter on the F4.

^You have an H22 right? In that case, I'd go with the taller gear'd tranny. Only because the h22 has plenty of torque to opperate efficiently at lower rpms then the smaller b-series b16/b18's. My b16 with SiR tranny revs pretty high on the highway, yet still gets awesome fuel mileage because it's a smaller displacement and runs efficiently in that rpm range. It also needs to rev higher in order to make sufficient torque to keep the car moving.

The H22 makes plenty of lower end torque to keep a lightweight civic moving, even with taller gears. It may be worth it in fuel savings to use the taller gear'd trans.

But that's just me...

The decision is yours. It'll be damn quick in the 1/4 mile with the F4 trans, that's for sure.

If you get it done in time, come out to cayuga with the rest of us on July 24th!

Yeah i have a JDM H22a in my civic right now, and a h22a1 sitting in pieces in my shed (also known as a 95 civic sedan, haha). Im hoping to be able to make it out in augest. Theres still a few parts i need and being jobless its kinda difficult lol. Still need : shifter cables (Anyone know if accord cables will work? cant find prelude cables...), intermediate shaft (Same question),resurface my flywheel, clutch is coming in today, and assembly of the intake (not a big deal...just need to do it and i want to put the rest in first so its not in the way).

h2b cost 1400, thats more than im spent on the entire car, both motors, and both trannys, as well as everything i need for cert. Plus i would have to buy a sir/gsr/itr tranny..i dont think thats gonna happen, haha. Maybe down the road sometime, but 3 grand for a tranny+h2b is a little out of my budget.
