Springs? which is which

when looking at lowering springs. How can you tell which springs go on the front of the car and which on the back? assuming there is no writing of course.

The shorter the spring the greater the drop, the longer the spring the less the drop...

Short springs in the front, long in the rear...

Easiest way to tell is to line 'em up beside your stock springs (which will be the largest) then go on down the line.

OK

I've never thought of this before... but the longer ones being in the front would make more sense, because you need to compensate for the extra weight of the engine, firewall, driver etc. up front. That's my guess.

See - logically Mike that makes sense... but I think it is the reverse because the springs in the front are put under far more load than those in the back. The spring rates are different too - so the length of the springs themselves do not dictate the 'size' of the drop.? This is why I ask the question...

The longer one has more coils, so it can handle more weight. The front of your car has much more weight than the rear. Just the gnine alone is a big differnce nevermind eveything else.

If you put the shorter ones on the front I think you're front end will be sitting on the ground.

Don't most lowering springs have something on them saying if they're front or back. ie mine had the product code followed by a F or an R for either front or rear (duh!).. Maybe it's just covered by dirt? Clean them up a bit maybe...

Well Shokker that's true for most springs, but the question was how can you tell without looking at the writing.

Whopsies.. My mistake .. In that case I would assume that the spring that is taller would go in the back unless you're going for some strange low-rider look. But that is all dependant on whether the spring rates are the same for the two pairs of springs. If so then I think the rear springs should be longer, if not then I suggest taking it to a professional just to find out which goes where.

Guys, its not just the "# of coil" which affect the spring movement..

Springs are constructed to handle a certain load weight by tensity and apart of the "forging process" or whatever the hell they do when they make them.

The only way to solve this is to call up a shop... or ask Vince or Ken and seek out professional answers.

Regards,
OK
