Is this my tranny slipping...??

Recently while driving, i'll stop at a light and then when i'm pulling off first gear will drive fine but the rest (2nd 3rd and 4th and maybe 5th gear) don't seem to be driving properly... The engine revs but the car doesn't move like usual...
There is an initial lag, then movement but if i apply gas the engine revs harder than it should and the car does not move as it should.

At the same time the car has driven normally except twice when this has occured...

Can the fluid be the problem...?

Let me kno what this could be and/or ill tell you anything else you might need to kno about the car..

Jdm D15b vtec, Put in a few months ago... (The motor came with tranny(si), so i'm thinking the fluid is what was in there b4 the swap)

Thanks in advance

do a fluid change, if that dosent help than yes, sounds like you have issues with your tran.

I don't know much about cars but my honda civic had a similar problem, it revs higher then usual, enough for u to notice you are not getting the power for the gas your giving. After a while, my distributor died, had to get the whole thing replaced, wasn't giving proper spark or something, unno.

I know this thread is old but

I'm having this exact problem with my 2001 Civic Si, was it your fluid, trans or clutch?

Thanks

the fluid shouldn't be able to cause slipage unless you have an auto or maybe in a LSD but I doubt this is what your problem is. weak spark caused by a dizzy sure, clutch maybe. you would prolly smell the clutch burning if it's wearing or at least hear noises from it. DIY- swap the dizzy with one that works check if it solves the problem. if no have your clutch checked

Like everyone else said, either do a fluid change, but it seems like a clutch problem. Aint grabbing like it should. It aint that much anyways.

Thanks for your reply ol Dusty, my car is a Si 5 speed, I don't smell anything burning, but say I'm in 5th on the hwy and hit the accel my tranny seem to slip and revs the engine and as I reduce power to the engine it sort of kicks back in. This doesn;t happen on the up shift just if I'm driving along in 4th or 5th and just need to push it a bit my tranny slips. This is the clutch?

yes im 90% sure that would be your clutch. the reason why you dont feel it on the upshifts is because when you upshift your rpms drop and at slower revolutions it may still grab but when it starts spinning fast thats when it does not hold anymore.
after a drive on the highway when you stop and get out of the car you dont smell anything at all? weird..would not drive too hard anyways...my buddies clutch was slipping and it wasnt that bad untill one night it just started slipping like crazy..bearly got home and after that he could put it in gear and step out of the car and it wouldnt even move a bit lol.

A standard transmission cannot slip because there is nothing in it to slip, a worn clutch on the other hand as people have mentioned can. If you want to do an easy test to see if your clutch is fried try starting in second gear, if it grabs easily and you get moving ok then the clutch should be alright. More then likely though your having a distributor issues or a problem with the TPS sensor, a close friend of mine is currently having the exact same problem with his 97' civic.

I would put it on 5th gear and pull the hand brake just to be safe. If it dies than your clutch is good. but if your engine still runs and not move the car than its your clutch. So just pray that it dies. hehehehhe
