2001 Auto Tranny slipping
This seemed to have just started happening in the last day or so.
car is a 2001 Honda Civic 4dr NON-Si.
Car has around 130km on it. All service and maintenance done on time.
Symptoms: Tranny will slip when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. Engine revs for 1sec between shifting gears and RPMS shoot up. Tranny also seems slower to engage once put in gear.
Eg. when backin gout of the driveway, put into drive and press pedal and the RPMS shoot up byt it will not go. You have to let off the gas for 1 sec then start off again.

I think I found something
For a 2001 Honda Civic
An occasional problem on this vehicle is failure of the second gear clutch in the Automatic Transmission. This will cause the Automatic Transmission to slip, and the Check Engine Light to illuminate. Also, if the Automatic Transmission is rebuilt or replaced, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) software needs to be updated. The cost to replace the Automatic Transmission is estimated at $1800.00 for a Remanufactured Unit and $318.50 for labor. The cost to update the PCM is estimated at $65.00 for labor. All prices are estimates based on $65.00 per flat rate hour and do not include diagnostic time or any applicable sales tax

Turns out it was the tranny. My dad barely made it into work this morning trying to take it to lakeshore honda. Got 200m from there and it was spinning and not grabbing at all. Luckily it cooled down enough to start back up again 10 min later and he drove it in.
Honda is replacing the tranny for free (good to have pull at honda) and givins us half on labour.
Still this event is making me think twice about honda now.

most of those uber high mileage accords from the early and mid 90s are also autos.
you've come across a bad tranny and the dealer totally took care of you. our VW had 60K kms warranty, after that you were **** OUT OF LUCK SON!!!!!! i wish my dad had bought a Honda.
anyways, all cars have their problems. I think Honda has the fewest problems of all, so I plan to drive Hondas for the rest of my life.
