bad clutch :(

ok guys so last weekend i intalled my prothane mount inserts and i am concerned that my already going clutch is gonna just stop working on me because of it. sooooo, a few questions..

while under the car i noticed that the flywheel cover is m.i.a.
1, is this bad could this cause my clutch to act up/slip?

2, on a scale of 1/10 how hard is changing a clutch on a dohc zc,

3, could a worn bushing in my shift linkage set up cause my third gear grind?

4, is there anyway to tell if a tranny has grinds in any gear short of actually installing it? (found one for 50bucks but condition is unknown)

5, and lastly is reparing syncros in a tranny possible? difficult job?

thanks guys,

Yes, water/grease could get on flywheel and cause a clutch to slip

2, on a scale of 1/10 how hard is changing a clutch on a dohc zc,
Depending on your skill as a mechanic. if you can pull the transmission out, its then just taking off bunch of pressure plate bolts. you should also get your flywheel re-machined when everything is apart.

3, could a worn bushing in my shift linkage set up cause my third gear grind?
no, unless you do not push the shifter all the way into 3rd gear.

4, is there anyway to tell if a tranny has grinds in any gear short of actually installing it? (found one for 50bucks but condition is unknown)
No, unless you crack open the transmission and inspect it. you could take out the drain bolt which is magnetic for the transmission fluid and look for metal shards, otherwise no.

5, and lastly is reparing syncros in a tranny possible? difficult job?
Yes, though its not as simple as you may think. you need special gear pullers and you MUST know what you are doing. If you end up doing it, i believe ol'dusty could possibly help you out.

^^ it all depends on how bad the grinding is. If its minor and at very high rpm then GM synchromesh would help.
