Have you adjusted the clutch cable? How far do you need to release the clutch before the car starts to move? When was the last time you changed the trans fluid?

time to replace trans fluid. get some GM synchromesh or just Honda fluid. people say you can put certain engine oil but dont try, get either of the ones i mentioned. should help a lot with the issue. But the problem most likely are the synchros.

I agree with scrid3r. Be sure they do not use gear oil. As I have seen this in many Honda that causes the same symptom as what you have.

Your only supposed to use a certain grade of oil instead of tranny fluid in a severe situation where you need to change the fluid and you have no way of getting the proper fluid. Other than that only use MTF fluid.

If you have access to honda TSB's go read a few on manual transmissions.

Honda MTF only.

OP, just throw in full synthetic 20w50 or the highest grade you find. It will eliminate all the grind.

it'll eliminate the grind cause it's getting colder and you won't be able to shift at all.

OP you need to check a few less obvious things here. very carefully inspect the clutch cable and all your motor mounts. any damage here could potentially lead to the occasional differences in your clutch engagement. also have you had the tranny out lately? if so you may not have it lined up properly with the engine putting stress on the input shaft.

regardless of the above you should change your fluid after you check for other signs of damage/wear. is there any noises other then grinding coming from it? and if so under what conditions? ie. pedal up or down, in.out of gear, moving, stopped, etc. the more info you have here can help isolate the issues.

when you do drain the fluid, try and collect it in a clear bottle and check for metal in it. if you find flakes in it then that can help you also. brass means synchro's, steel/iron prolly gears or bearings (this is part of where noise location comes in), or aluminum is prolly the housing. you'll have a magnet it the housing that you get the iron on you but if that's the issue (and it's prolly not) there'll be enough you still get some and you can tell the diff between it and aluminum by using a magnet.

As for fluid you could use 5w30 but I second the recomendation of HONDA MTF. the only good thing GM ever made is synchromesh and alot of guys were having good results in there honda tranny's with it, then honda intro'd a new MTF that seems alot like synchromesh and it seems to be as good or better.

Hows your clutch master cylinder/fluid level? If it's low, pull the carpet back and see if it's leaking inside. If it's discoloured, you have a leak in the system and water/dirt is getting in, which can't take the pressure the same way brake fluid can. Might explain the weird clutch activity.

Also, when was the last time you had a full brake job? or have you replaced a caliper lately? There might be air in the system which might explain the randomness

This is a forum for people trying to find friendly help for their civic problems....I'm trying to help you out and had an oversight when reading the question. If you're content on telling other people that they are stupid and need to go to school when they are just trying to help, then maybe you don't deserve help. We have no obligation whatsoever to help you, we do it because we are nice and like to share the experience we have had with similar problems. Maybe you should just pay a shop to figure it out for you, mr.smartguy, and save the ******** comments for them.
P.S. Maybe you should be the one going to school to learn how to spell.
