private company parking ticket
i searched and i got a thread from a couple years back.
my buddy got a parking ticket from Imperial Parking. Now the ticket is for $70. Now is it still fact that he dont have to pay and should turn it over to the police??
I've heard that they can send collection agencies after you which in turn ruins your credit rating, is this true??

its only 70 dollars i'd pay it if i was him
and yea thats correct, they can turn it over to a collection agency which will hurt his credit hardcore
not much of a fine so its better to pay it than to take a risk

not sure, i hope someone else has more info about this stuff
but when i got a ticket at my school, it was toronto ticket
and when i got one at my girlfriends school, it was a mississauga ticket
so they were both real tickets
i dont know if that has anything to do with your question though

oh i know that when the City of Toronto symbol/crest/whatever its called is on the ticket you have to pay or whatever jurisdiction your in. But this one just has the imperial symbol on it so we know its purely private.
And $70 is a lot for a damn parking ticket.
If any one has the answer to this please help!!
TIA

You can ignore the ticket and not have to worry about plate denial when renewal time comes around.
But, if you refuse to pay that ticket, Imperial can and will register the defaulted payment against your credit history with the credit bureau. as being a refusal to pay for services provided. That stain on your credit history is enough that it could cost you getting the best loan and mortgage rates in future.
So, you could save the $70 now by refusing to pay, but the result of that could be countless calls from a collection agency at all times of the day, a black mark on your credit history, and you potentially paying significantly more than $70 in extra interest charges because that black mark kept you from getting the best credit rates.
You may as well pay the thing and be done with it. You did park on their property, probably tried to avoid payment in the process which is why you have this ticket now. Consider the extra $ as beingthe service charge over and above the regular parking charge that you evaded payment for.

I'd sue them for defamation of Character if they placed the non-payment on my credit report. hmm I'd actually love to see a case like this.
then again how did you manage to get a private parking titcket anyways?

The argument is that the "ticket" is not actually a ticket, but an invoice for services provided.
When you don't pay Imperial's invoice ticket, they turn your account over to a collection agency and it is treated the same as any other unpaid debt placed into collections.
