I'll play the devils advocate here...

Say this guy is willing to pay cash for the repairs, but later tells his insurance company. Your insurer later finds out that you were involved in an accident and didn't report it. You get dumped and have to pay huge to get insured again. Not worth it IMO.
well its possible, but highly highly unlikely, cuz both parties did not report the accident when required to which is 24hours, and in which case both parties would be found guilty of failing to report and accident, its a lose lose situation no one in the rite mind would go down this road.

well that may be ottawa but its 2008 now, and lots have changed since then, any accident wat so ever is technically by law suppose to go through insurance. small damage or not, they just want to know the frenquency of accidents ur in. big or small and accident is and accident, to them its a chance to make money, and they'll take it. its like getting a ticket for unessary noise, from wat i hear ur insurance may go up depending on ur company. its stupid but thats how insurance companies work.

and yes its not considered fraud, just failing to report an accident at the scene. ur not even suppose to move from the scene, ur technically suppose to keep the cars where they are till a cop shows up to make a report, and use his/her judgment.

This is my opinion and experience

honestly dude if u got rear ended, i suggest u go through insurance, cuz in the past while sitting in my buddys car we got rear ended at a red light n the guy hit us at least 60km/h or over, n the car was messed, n from that experience even though at that point in time everyone seemed like they were fine but there is or probally will b some sort of injuries in the future, cuz its been 4 yrs now for me n when i go to a caropractor or massage therpist they say i still have bak probs n injuries, soo if i were u dont save the extra bux go through insurance to b really safe, cuz u dont know when ull b kicking urself up the A$$ knowing u have a injury somewhere with out knowing, n till this very day i can still feel my back muscles r kinda messed and my buddy that was driving found out his spine is egg shaped now cuz of the injury he got with out knowing.

soo yea to b safe go with insurance cuz medical bills n ur time running around doing everyting is just money outta ur pocket when u can just pay the lil extra and have someone else deal with ur problem n have the protection u need

Only had time for one quote so far, $1200.00 which is with extra's I don't need. I left the guy a message this afternoon to let him know what the first quote was. It's a crv, my spare took the impact and the bracket that holds it is bent so I'll see if my brother inlaw can fix it at a lower price and let him know. I'm not out to screw anyone and this guy will get charged with following too close so I really don't want to screw him.

you have 24hr to report it to the police, then doesn't matter when you report to insurance, you have up to 3 years depending on your insurance company.

I waited 2 and a half weeks before reporting my accident to insurance (thats how long it took for quotes and the person to make up their mind if they wanted to pay cash) they didnt wanna pay so I called insurance and filed a claim and bingo bango everything was in the works, I got my money and car and all was done
