help

I hope I got the right forum here. gotta replace my balljoints, stabilizer bushings and rear wheel bearing. not too sure about the ball joints, but the wheel bearing comes already pressed into the hub. is this sumthing that i could change myself? im not a mechanic, but i can do minor maintenance, brakes, tune ups..would i need any special tools to change these?

thanks
Eirik

as far as i know ball joints are hard to replace and you may need a hoist and maybe a special tool.... Never done it myself but i was told that by a few mechanics... Icould be wrong though

It's very hard to tell someone that a job is easy or hard because we do not know how skilled you are.

Wheel bearings, balljoints, bushings are pretty basic and easy for myself, but may not be for another mechanic/backyarder.

get a service manual, you'll see how everything goes together. if you feel like there are too many parts...then leave it for a shop.

Difficult to do without a hoist - awkward and clumsy. Also air tools are a definite plus as those pesky ball joint nuts don't come off easy especially if you laying on the floor under your car when you've gotta jack the knuckle up to release the lower control arm from the ball joint. I do agree with Chris_V2 that without knowing you mechanical ability, it's hard to say whether or not you'd be able to perform these tasks. Best to have your mechanic do balljoints and hub bearings. Stabilizer bushings are pretty easy and can be done on the floor with ramps or jack stands.

One Backyarder to another... Uppercontrol arms are easy to change. Buy the whole setup, eBay is like 100$ for tie rods, Ball joints, and anything else for the job. Wheel bearing, and LCA I would find impossible w/o a shop. The Wheel bearings need to be pressed in. Note: You can take it to a shop go get pressed in.

Both front bearings cost me $440'ish dollars from honda. Labour/Parts.

remove steering knuckle, take it to a shop and pay $30 per side to have the balljoints pressed in - do the wheel bearings at the same time. get new axle nuts (the 32 mm ones).
