For your enjoyment

This is for anyone whos thought about putting off lower balljoint replacement.

I knew I had to get mine done, had an appointment set up for next Saturday. To add insult to injury, I had the balljoints in the trunk of the car when this happened.

Now what would have cost me $50 bucks shall cost a bit more seeing as I've got to replace my rubber brake hose and inner CV joint boot, not to mention that when the balljoint ripped apart it left the upper part in tact it the damn thing and pulled the lower half off into the control arm ARGHHHHHHHH.

Anyways, I count my lucky stars cause ealier that day I took, my wife to work via 401 @ 120km/h, came home... got gas and parked it, it wasnt till I was on my way to get her from work that this happened travelling 60km/h, luckily in the fast lane cause it pulled me into the slow lane. and couldnt argue the fact that I was less than 3km from home at this point.

Anyways enjoy.

Long story short, If you have an incling that your lower balljoints need to be replaced, don't hold off, go get it done ASAP, though this was quite a **** off, I look at the situation and realize I got lucky, can't say the same for everyone else.

Wow that sucks man. I always tell everybody to get their balljoints fixed. Once I show this to my brother he should let me replace his balljoint on his car since he's been putting it away for quite a while.
Thx for sharing, hope people will understand.

Grab a big set of channel locks and try to squeeze the 2 arms together. If it moves, time to replace. Also can look for rips/cuts in the boot. And if you just jack the car up, wheel will move up/down with a bad b/j

ohhhh sh*t... that sucks but good to see you were alright

same thing happened to me, looks like we have the same civic too haha

the only thing i thought of when I heard the snap was "oh sh*t my rims!!"

... 3 days before my ball joint snapped, I just put on my new SiRs and my new Toyo tires. When I got out of the car to take a look the car was just there resting on my new tires, I was so pissed I just kicked the car

Hahaha, I know the feeling, a few years back I hit a dog and he took a good 1.5' square chunk out of my bumper, got so mad I punched the fender. oddly enough the same one that I'm probably gonna replace now, hopefully with a little TLC a little banging here and smoothing there I can get away with not replacing it.

Crappiest outcome on top of everything... I just painted the entire front end. just want to scream!!

Toe truck driver said for whatever reason the passenger side seems to go before the drivers on almost all cars, so I'd check it out myself

the way to check bjs is to separate the knuckle from the lower control arm and move the threaded end by hand, if it's easy to do, time for new ones. they should be extremely hard to move by hand.

Looked a lot worse than it was. Brother and I fixed it in my garage, was up and running in 72 hrs, only reason it took even that long was waiting for a stupid brake line to come in.
