Congrats on the Volvo. They are nice cars for sure. My neighbor has one just like yours in mint condition. I will take some pics and then post them here so you can see. Apparently these things never die.

It's ALIVE!!!!!!!!!

It's fixed. One broken ground wire for the intank fuel pump was the cause of it's problems.

Fixed it today, now she runs like a dream!

Expect to see it at a few meets in june.

Anybody know whats required for a 10 day permit?

That may just happen. I have one of the twins from an R34 in mint condition sitting in my basement. And the real owner of it doesn't seem too worried about getting it back. And yes, it will bolt right on...T3 flanged manifold ftw!!!

I can hear some bearing noise from the stock turbo, plus she's spewing a bit of oil in the intake side, which means the seals are on the way out. So swapping turbos is definately in it's future.

I gotta get it road worthy (change the tires, replace some light bulbs etc...) and make sure it's going to be reliable first. Then the fun begins!

Pics???

After looking at this skyline turbo here, it's quite a bit smaller than the stock turbo in the volvo. So I'm going to stick with what it has and go from there. Should still last quite a while. Still works very well...lol.

With the boost controller set to stock, it still spikes to 10psi and settles down to 8....

Can't wait to turn it up to 12+....hehe

Building the exhaust for it tomorrow. 2.5" Straight pipe, no cats, no nothing, out the passenger side infront of the rear wheel.

Also have to replace a bunch of burned out bulbs.

Crappytire told me they discontinued the Hayne's repair manual for this car and you can't get them anywhere.....sucks!

Oh well, it's pretty much fix now anyways. Plus the guys at turbobricks.com are very knowledgeable and cool to talk to.

Scratch doing the exhaust. Took it for a spin tonight, still has some issues while in boost. It seems to be connected to rpm. In the higher rpm range (3000-3500+) it runs great, even at full boost. But when you build boost from 2000 to 3000rpm, it still cuts out intermittently.

Going to check the dizzy and rotor tomorrow.

that car has a MAF right?
Did the stock recirculation valve dump back before the turbo and/or MAF?

If it dumped after the MAF before the turbo, the MAF doesn't see the extra air and just compensates for it. Since its not a re-circ BOV that extra air isn't there, but the ecu thinks it is.
MAF ftl

That turbo looks to be a decent size.
How big is that engine?

It has an AMM (air mass meter). The good things is, where the stock recirculating bov dumped was after the AMM and before the turbo, so it doesn't really effect how it runs. It also had a restrictor in the vacuum line for the stock bov, which caused it to open after a delay and open slowly (not cool). After removing the restrictor and installing the external bov, it seemed to help the turbo spool faster after letting off while shifting fast. Plus it sounds really cool....lol. I also moved the bov over right near the tb. So the engine bay looks a little different now from the pics I posted before. Updated pics to come.

The turbo is a T3 of some sort, not sure exactly about the specs on the compressor and turbine sizes. It seems to match the the engine well. It'll build up to 20+psi boost and hold it throughout the rev range according to turbobricks.com.

The engine is a B230F-T (the T meaning turbo, obviously).
2.32L inline 4
sohc
8 valve......lol
compression ratio a very boost friendly 8.7:1
stock 160hp@5300rpm, 187ft-lbs@2900rpm
6200rpm rev limiter
Curb weight, (this surprised me, was expecting much more), 2892lbs.

So, what you're saying is the engine still thinks it's getting that charge of air from the BOV when it's not. And according to you, you don't think that effects how it runs?

Did I read that right?

Yeah I wasn't thinking when I typed that...lol. It doesn't seem to effect it at all. It's running excellent. For the split second it runs rich because of it, it doesn't really make that much of a difference. If it was that big of an issue, most ppl would run recirculating bov's instead of external bov's.

Pulled the exhaust off on saturday, the cat was clogged. Tried running it with with straight 2.5" pipe out the side with no cat, no nothing. Yeah, pretty freakin loud...lol. Sounded like combination of a dump truck and a 747.

Gonna try the new cherrybomb vortex muffler from crappy tire. Looks like a pretty decent unit for $99.

DO IT!!!

What do you have?

Had it out for a rip today with just the straight down pipe and bumped up the boost to 12psi....Damn it's quick! lol. Definitly quicker than my SiR. Layes a nice 10 foot patch in 2nd gear (one tire of course...lol).
