So I got a volvo **Pics added**
86 740 turbo sedan.
got it for free from my wife's cousin, saved it from going to the wreckers. It's awsome, I love it. Always wanted one. In pretty good condition, 227,000km's, engine runs strong, body is pretty good, needs a little tlc. Just thought I'd share. |

She'll leave a nice patch and cloud of smoke all the way through 2nd gear...haha. pics coming soon... |
nicee.. lets see some pics!
|
haha awesome that was my first car. i bought it when i was sisxtenen. It was pretty quick for an 86. That car has solid reliability.
|
So today, tried to take off the fuel filter to clean it or see if it needs replacement. The banjo bolt on the one end would not come undone so I put it back together and I must have damaged the filter casing cause now it sprays a mist of fuel from that end of the filter while the engine is running...now it really does need replacing...lol. Also found out it needs a rear main seal on the tranny.
Installed an external bov I had from my turbo cavalier, also installed a fuel pressure gauge. the bov sounds nice...hehe. Gives off a nice PSSSSSsssss. Tomorrow, new fuel filter and fuel pump relay and also picking up a Chilton's repair manual. Those books are awesome. |
Awesome!
We need pics! |
just jam the wastegate closed and see how much balls it really has

LOL It does have a very weak waste gate spring. I have a manual boost controller to put in it but I want to get it running properly before I go raising the boost. |
Ugh....
Got the new fuel filter installed. Now I need a new rad. The one fitting near the top right side snapped right off. Was all rotted. Going to standard autowreckers tomorrow for a fuel pump relay and rad. Guess there's a reason it was free...lol. But I'll get her purring again. Half the fun of a project car is fixing it up. |
Still no pics
|
Ok, I'll post up a couple pics tomorrow.
So I went to standard auto wreckers, got a rad. The original was plastic tanks and the new one I put in was brass tanks, and has a slightly larger capacity (better cooling ftw!!!). Put the rad in, took her for a little run. She ran strong today. And the bov is anything but quiet! hehe...except now I think it just ran out of gas...lol. Either that or the in-tank fuel pump quit working.... The project continues... |

^^haha! Awsome.
Have you seen the volvo big-rig trucks? Best looking trucks on the road. |
Ok, here are the pics:

Removed the air box today, made a mounting bracket and put on a high flow cone filter. Also installed an external bov and removed the factory recirculating bov. Also installed a fuel pressure gauge inline right before the fuel rail. And last but not least, the guage cluster: (I love the boost gauge with no numbers...lol. A proper boost gauge is next on the list.) http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...r/100_2724.jpg |
That's not too shabby for a freebie.
|
Today: Installed a proper boost gauge (one with actual numbers on it...lol), also installed a manual boost controller (in the car, beside the center console) for extra boost on the fly! It works well too, had her up to 10psi and you can actually hear it bleeding the boosted air out in the car...hehe.
Turbos are the best invention ever! Even better than sliced bread! Fuel pump relay came into day but didn't have time to try it. Have to try it tonight. |
get a huge fmic and mount it in front of the bumper...keep it haggard!
