Question Tell me about 98-01 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS

I'm possibly looking to buy one of these for winter season, while my Crx sleeps.
Anyways, how are these cars ? Decent gas mileage ? Reliable ?
I want the RS for the 4WD.
Are they hard to find in good shape these days ?

thanks

I got a 02 WRX reliability is great but if you're usedto honda's this thing is completely different. check out www.toronto-subaru-club.com there's one for sale with 220km auto for 6gs. Also not a honda as far as gas milage awd uses a lot of gas.

that year had alot of head gaskets problems on the SOHCs ..
around 100-140 000 kms ..
head gaskets on a subarus cost almost 1000

yea AWD uses a lot more gas, also do not get it for modding street style, these cars are for the gravel, but if you just need a transport from A to B, get one. These cars will crash 90% on corners if you race them on pavement.

I just bought one last week and I love it
it drives great and it is hard to find one in good condition unless you are paying out the cash lol.
I came from a eg hb with a b16a
the cornering is great I haven't had a problem with it a lot of power in and out of the corner
but it is slower then my civic >.<
and gas is not that bad I get around 500-600 a tank and it is 55 liter tank

these cars are bad *** but the only thing i have a problem with is that if you want to do a swap you have to rewire the whole damn car which is extremely tedious. pulling out the ENTIRE harness, which also means pulling out the dash. the grip they are able to generate coming out of a corner is just unreal. the GCs are very capable platforms, especially the coupes. although they are not as light as our hondas but with they definately have higher potential.

I've had mine for 5 years and put it through everything imaginable.
Needless to say it takes it and comes back for more.
Mine's got almost 200,000 hard km's on it and is still tight as the day I got it.
It turns heads and sounds like a chopper..
The only issues are headgaskets and clutch.. axels.. depends on the driver.
Did a clutch/flywheel on mine this spring and the OEM one was still in great condition after all the racing I've done.
The N/A's aren't terribly fast but they make it up in the fun department
They're amazing in the snow.. once you have one you won't ever wanna drive anything else in the snow.

An Audi A4 Quattro, with the 1.8T and a 5-speed would be a better choice.

headgaskets.. rads blow (cause of headgasket failure), 5spd trannies aren't made for abuse, so i've seen a few blow..

Not my first choice for a car, even though they are moderately quick and get decent mileage.
