The ZC is a D-series motor like CRXlover says.
There is no ZC series engine.
The DOHC ZC is a DOHC D-series motor.

Check out zcresource page for more info.

They have different engine stamps, so to me at least, they are different motors. If someone asks me for a SOHC ZC, i will point them to an engine with "ZC" stamped on it. I'm not going to show them a D16Z6. However similar they may be, and i know they're very similar..almost identical some of them.. like i said it;'s all in the engine stamp. Generalizations vs. details, i think i'll favour details.

Just talked to my friend that had the accident with a SOHC non Vtec engine in it. Guess what the stamp on the head said? Stamped ZX, and near the header----> (94)

So you generelization is incorrect like Jugglez said. And no, the head has not been swapped. (it originally came out of a 95 Civic FERIO 4 dr. )

He also told me that the engine originally came with what looked like dual side mounted carburators......he then replaced it with the FI from his old D15........the ZC also has dommed pistons.....where as the regular D motors do not.

The SOHC ZC engine looks almost identical to the D15 here......it's the internals that are a bit different. (the timming belt also has an extra tooth on it.......just like the D16 motor. )

By the way, the valve covers for both the SOHC ZC, and the D 15 are EXACTLY the same.......spark plugs along the top of the cover, and the oil cap near the bottom front passenger side of the cover.

So at least the engine he had was NOT a D16 motor.

By the way, He dynoed it.

Header
Axle back exahast
air intake

= 111 WHP (can't remember what the tourque was)

Not bad for a ZC aka D15 motor. (technically)

Confussed yet?

ACTUALLY THEY BOTH CAME RATED AT APPROX. 130HP. TWIN CAM THOUGH WAS OLD SCHOOL WHILE THE VTEC MOTOR REPLACED IT'S AGING COUNTERPART
TUNABILITY OF THE VTEC MAKES IT WAY MORE DESIRABLE
