Question VTEC problems

Hello i m new on here I have a eg hatch with a b16a in it, i recently got a Mugen p-28 with 5800 rpm VTEC activation. The problem is that the VTEC doent work all the time. Sometimes it works at 5800 all the way up,but mostly it doesnt kick in until 6000 plus or sometimes it surges in and out of VTEC. I was thinkink maybe the VTEC solenoid is bad or perhaps the wiring has a problem in it, or maybe the oil pressure is not high enough (bad oil pump) and the switch is not working. If anyone has a idea about what could be causing this I would apperciate it very much.

The ECM is a stock p-28 that has been chipped with mugen data(if that sounds correct)It came from the guy i got the engine from. The VTEC did the same with the p-30 the swap came with if that helps at all. The only thing differet with the p-30 is it had a 7600 or so rev limiter on it. I also used a stock p-28 and it did the same thing. Thanks for any help.

only way to know for sure is to get an oil pressure gauge, and wire up a light to the VTEC solenoid, so you can tell when it gets energized. then you'll know if the ECU is screwing up or the solenoid or something else. if you are unwilling/unable, then take this to Altech.

The chip is brand new from Japan last November. I got it from the shop i got my motor from. The VTEC hasnt worked right ever, I have tried 4 different ecu's that should have made it work, but it still kicks in and out. I'm thinking bad VTEC solenoid, bad wiring, or bad oil pump. Anyone ever had this problem of surging or non engaging VTEC?

i have a 2nd gen B16a (JDM) and its doing the same thing! i have the chip and Vtec is supposed to engage at 5400 or something anyway if i'm not a FULL THROTTLE just before Vtec engages the engine Bogs HARD tat ta ta ta and then BAM vtec goes in! but if 100% throttle its goes right into it.

so is this similar?? PLS help.
