Transmission Question

Transmission Question
I'm currently contemplating adding some boost to my car and I was wondering if anyone knew what the limits of the 2000 Si transmission were. I've seen dyno's of people pushing 220 + ft/lbs into a tranny that comes on a car with half that torque and I was wondering just how reliable this would be. I'm not looking for answers like "it'll be fine" "boost is way better than reliability". I'm hoping one of the knowledgeable people here will know specific limits. I just don't want to mess up my car trying to make it better.

That transmission has been proven to handle 400+ft/lb so i wouldn't worry about it. The only thing i would add to it at a high hp level would be a LSD and stronger axles and you should be good to go.

you in Canada or US, cuz the 2000 Si designation differs between the two.
Anyways, the axles will snap first, most likely also cracking your transmission case. Stock axles are okay at 250 hp, then you need upgraded axles for dragging. You'll have other problems besides that though.... traction is pretty limited with the open diff, so I don't think you'll ever lay down enough power to blow your tranny. IMO, don't worry about it.
Now, that being said, even at a good 200 wheel hp, and a good clutch, your tranny will prolly self destruct in about 50,000 kms depending on how you drive. I mean, if you are hard on your tranny to begin with, it may not even last that long.

if yoru actually making a good 180-200 whp with some good torque I'd say dont' slam the gears liek a 25 cent *****
think of it this way a guy with a bolt on d15b can destroy a tranny in no time..or a guy with 250-300 whp can last for years on one tranny...just dont' abuse it..they have been shown to hold soem good power..but the axles will be and issue if your runnign slicks at the track...

Thanks for the responses. I'm not planning on doing anything severe with the car. I'll definitely take it out to get a 1/4 slip but I'm not really looking to build a drag car. As far as shifting, I think if I do get the thing boosted I'll have all the time in the world to make proper shifts if I'm pushing 200+ whp. My followup question would be regarding the axles: if I'm not going to be launching the car are the axles still going to be a possible achilles heel?
