Transmission Question??

I have a 89 Civic 5spd, the shifter seems to be a bit on the tough side. I have driven many others and they shifter is more loose then mine?? are there some kind of bushings that perhaps could be seized?? I changed the transmission fluid but that didn't do much.. Any suggestions would help

Thanks

Did you recently change your stock shifter to a short shifter? Does it scrape? It could be a couple of things, I know from experience that if you put the copper/metal bushings that come with a short shifter its very stiff at first, but if you lube them up well after time they loosen. But if you put back to regular rubber bushings from the stock shifter the shifting is very loose and uncomfortable(in my opinion). It all matters on how you like it, try changing the bushings; see what happens.

What type of transmission fluid did you use?

The lower bushing might be a bit worn. Suspension Techniques or Prothane has a urethane bushing upgrade for your car.

Sorry for the confusion. The shifter and the rest of the car is all stock, dailey driver. I did change the transmission fluid with whatever the owners manual recommends I think it was 10w30 not sure. How do I go about lubbing up that bushing on the bottom??

You gotta put the car on jack stands and behind the oil pan is the bottom of your shifter. Now, the bolts holding the shifter in place are probably be rusted out, best way to loosen them is to use some wd-40. Then, on the bushings check them to see if they're ok and add some automotive grease around them. (you can pick grease at crappy tire) if any can explain it better please do so.
Good luck man
