honda transmission(s) question

Hey im just wondering why my friends dx transmission is so loose is it natural for that year? just heard that from word of mouth...like when its in nuetral or in gear u can 'wiggle' the stick around without even shifting into another gear gear, and are Hydrolic transmissions (b series) much tighter or similar?

yeah thats a shifter linkagage bushing prob. the play is not in the tranny, its in the links and joints of the linkage under the car. you can buy hyperflex shifter bushing kits or i think honda will do it for farely cheap.

yeah, my buddies civic is the same way, his bushings are so worn out, when u are in 5th gear, you can push the shifter to the left and it will be in the 3rd gear spot but still be in 5th gear. He just picked up a shifter linkage for 20 bux off the boards and we are gonna put that in when the weather gets nicer

I had the same problem with my hatch back. It would be in first and you can still toggle it. I put a bushing kit in, which helped a little, but a short shifter will really improve it. I'm not sure why the shirter through has anything to do with it, but it's like night and day.

also alot of peopel with engien swaps have the problem witht he bitch pins.. most peopel think they can be clever and just jam a bolt intehre.. well after a while the threads get worn from teh pressure and the shifter quite a bit of play.... so just double check that when yoru under the car... could even be play in the stock bitch pin!

Shifter, or shifter rod or combination of both, I hate that feeling like your shifter feels like a bowl of soup. change the actual shifter itself with a rrplacment unit or a shart shifter.

Wow good to see other people are having this problem.. After my swap my shifter had a lot of play in it. How much did those shifter linkage bushings costs? Do you get to them from underneat the car? I suppose you'd have to lower the exhaust pip to get to it.
