I would use synthetic if your budget allows it. OEM Honda is cheap, but you change it every 3 or 4000kms. Synthetic is a bit more, but lasts longer. The end result (as far as cost goes) might not be much different.

Either change it often with basic oil, or change less with synthetic.

I've got a 93 Integra with 223,xxx kms on it and at 180,xxx I started using Mobil 1 10w30 because I was noticing some oil burn. I haven't had any problems with oil burn or engine reliability since I've changed to 10w30. Performance hasn't changed either. The only thing I do recommend is change the oil frequently. Oil suspends dirt and particles. In an older engine, it's safe to say it will be producing more of these contaminants so, the oil will appear more dirty soon than recommended by all synthetic oil users (6k). The dirtier the oil is, the more likely you will cause more damage to the engine in burning more oil over time. I use the synthetic every 3k. That's the best recommendation I can give you.

I had my mechanic check out my car. (He's a former Honda technician by the way.)

Overall, the engine is in good condition.

He looked at all the seals and they seem to be in pretty good shape. He doesn't think they will leak if I switch to synthetic.

So, I've got it on synthetic now.

I'll let you guys know if it turns out to be the right or wrong decision.
