synthetic oil for my engine?

Hi:

I have a 2003 Civic.
Its time for me to change my engine oil
Should I use synthetic oil for my engine?
How often should I change the oil when I am running on synthetic oil?
Its recommented from the dealer that I should change oil every 8000 km

but does synthetic oil last longer?

Can I switch back to normal engine oil after using synthetic oil?

Thanks

there is a thread lower down on synthetic vs regular oil, chances are you're more then fine with regular oil, but if you change to a synthetic like amsoil you can probably run 20k on a single change.

20,000 intervals are retarded, I dont care how good the oil is. It's still an engine that produces metal, rust, sludge particles. As well as the fuel that has sulphur and gum that gets into your crankcase.

Anyways, stick with 5w20 conventional oil. personally i would change it every 5000km.

Well from what I've learned at working at Canadian tire. Once you go Synthetic you have to stay with synthetic oil. Generally synthetic oils better for your car. But that's just what I was told.

when i worked at c/t i asked my co worker if there is any difference btw dexcool and regular anti-freeze. He said no, but dexcool is recommended for GM vehicles only.

That just goes to show how much c/t workers know..

I used to work at canadian tire. Out of the 7 certified techs there I would say only 1 was an idiot. And this is the same for everyplace you go to. **** some of the techs I see in the trade are morons, just know how to do brakes and tune-ups. Doesnt matter where you go. One of the smartest electrical guys ive known works for canadian tire.

back in the mid 90's we did a bunch of dyno testing on 4 stroke bike engines 600cc i believe and one of the tests involved a synthetic oil and the company swore that it was good for 15,000 kms between changes...it was pretty good stuff. email what ever company you are going to use and ask them yourself.

I will never go back to Canadian Tire. That was one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. That's like saying, if you used 94 octane , you shouldn't go back to 91 octane.
