power gain

ok, im thinkin about a build of my d16y8..

do yuo think i could run 170-180 hp with these mods

-2 1/4" exhaust
-SRI
-header
-skunk2 intake manifold
-skunk2 stage 2 cam (tuned on dyno)
-cam gear
-TI springs & retainers
-VAFC
-mild P&P

???? could i

if not what else would need to be added to that list for me to get 170ish hp??

no, not likely without a bump in compression or a stroke kit

dont buy all that bling stuff... just get some p29 pistson, port and polish the head and get a nice cam and spring combo then just a competant shop to put it all together

from what i've read the y8 engine isn't as good as a z6 engine all motor but who knows some guys on dseries.org are pushing 140 whp untuned and theres a few with sexy and very expensive build ups making over 160 whp... is it worth the money? HELL NO, i researched it and i dont think i could ever spend that much to get so little power...

some a set of say Carillo or Arias pistons to raise the compression, and maybe a thinner head gasket?

well depends how much money you want to pay for it? those p29 pistons can be had for about $200 brand new from honda... on my engine they would bump compression to 12.1:1 which is more then enough... they would raise it a bit more on your engine

but honestly swapping is such a better idea, expessially where you live cause you can't get 94 octane like we can here...

true true, so the money spenders have only like 160 hp, thats only like 40-45 hp more than stock... no way

but i guess ill just say F it and swap that crap..... prolly H22 or ITR then all motor that.... which is more expensive, ITR or H22?? i knw the H22 is way cheaper but the install is more expensive no??

well if you do it yourself the h22 is cheaper... if you get a shop to do it the itr is cheaper...

but the h22 in the end still gives you 30 ft*lbs more... and a sexy shifter after driving one i dont think i could dish out the bucks on a b series anymore

but you could still build a d16 and turbo it... heck you dont even "need" to built it up just giver... if you blow something buy a new engine for a couple hundred

no worries i was the same way... i thought about them all and they all have there pros and cons... but in the end the h22 came up the winner... best bang for the buck if you do the install yourself... which isn't really "that" hard

Before you decide to swap, check out www.sohchonda.com. They have alot of info that may interest you. I considered a swap, but after seeing that site, I changed my mind. Why be like evryone else? Half of the fun of this sport is being unique.

you would be luck to hit those numbers.
a boosted d16 will hit that..... but not by going all motor.
