How to gain weight?

I am looking into gaining weight, my diet doesn't consit enough meat.

Thats why I plan on drinking protein shakes before I goto bed, which ones are recommended, Life brand or Boost.

Life has 17g of Protein
Boost has 15g of Protein

Life is cheaper than Boost

Help?

Boost is a meal replacement and is used by people on a diet... so is slim-fast.. boost has quite little fat.

Eat FRENCH FRIES just before you go to sleep and put LOTS AND LOTS of butter on your bread.

That's assuming you want to gain weight by adding fat... if you're not into looking like a blimp...

May I suggest you visit your local gym... muscle weighs more than fat and at the same time, you'll feel better, look better, and gain the weight you want to have. ALso your confidence will be up.

I'd have to agree with Spleeny, why would you wanna just gain weight??? Don't bother with introducing extreme amounts of protein from supplement into your body, you'll just **** and fart a whole lot more, unless ofcourse you use up that protein by synthesizing it to muscle tissue by resistance training...but you know, go with the fries if you just wanna get fat???

During your sleep.. all your body functions slow down... your temperature drops... your brain waves spike... your metabolism slows to a crawl... your saliva glands produce saliva at a trickle (compared to the niagara falls when you're awake)...

Now.... why would you want to gain weight by gaining fat? That just makes you look chunky and bad. I suggest gym still.

like no spleeny said boost is more as a meal replacement if you're trying to lose weight
if you want to gain weight, i'd suggest to start working out and drinking protein shakes from a health store or from GNC would be a better idea
you could also take a weight gainer if you wanted

If you join belong to a gym talk to one of the trainers there
while i was working out i use to always drink vanilla myoplex shakes and add tasty fruit to them after i worked out
they're super good for you and have tons of protein

I was thinking those high protein boost shakes at night and than during the day I would ride bicycle, do pushups and situps, would that be sufficient? I asked a pharmacist at shoppers drug mart and he said it was ok... I dunno, I guess goto GNC?

Man, just eat a ton before bed. Doesn't even have to be highly fatty foods. A sandwich, a slice of pie, some fries, a burger, pizza, anything!! I am inexperienced and not very knowledgeable with dietary supplements or weight gainers, so all I can say is alot of that crap is artificially constructed in some lab. It may be naturally occuring to some extent, but the side-effects (long term) are unproven. For all we know some component of the supplement may increase your cancer risk by 200%, right? Eat something filling, but somewhat "healthy". See Below...

I am not looking to gain weight, but unfortuantely eating before going to sleep is something that is my weakness. I'm about to go to bed at 11:00 or so, and decided I want a sandwich.
I break out all of the ingredients, bun/bread, Havarti Cheese (quite fattening), ham, sausage, tomatoes, pickles, red onion, salt+pepper, Miracle whip, and top it off with Hot peppers. It tastes AMAZING, but it can't be too good for my health.
Maybe thats why I weigh in and around 210lbs. most of the time.

Sorry, don't mean to change the subject about gaining weight, but since we're on the topic of exercise and stuff, i wanted to ask a question... i work out like at least 3 times a week at my school gym doing mainly upper body stuff, like shoulders, arms, chest, back and so on... I do take rests for my body to recover and I am gettin stronger for sure, but i don't seem to be getting bigger like how i want to (not schwarzenneger big, but nice build)... now i also have to mention that i don't really work on my legs cuz i just don't like workin on them so much and i know i should even it out compared to my upper body... anyway someone mentioned to me that in order to get bigger overall, i'd have to work on ALL my body parts and such to even them out instead of just working on my upper body... is this true that i'm not getting bigger just because i do'nt work out my lower body as much as my upper body??

I hope someone understood my question... Thanks in advance

honestly just go for some protein from GNC or some similar store, if you're that worried about cancer stop drinking diet pop, and stop chewing gum cuz almost all come has asparatame in it, and that's been shown to cause cancer.... boost or whatever else you were thinking off doesn't have near enough protein for what you're looking for, and even then taking protein alone will not help you gain weight. If you're working out it will help your muscles repair quicker but that's about it.... there's a lot to go into and i don't fele like typing everything out, if you're just trying to get fat then go eat BK and McDonalds 4 times a day and do absolutley nothing, if you're trying to gain muscle mass then you have to start working out, eating right, and then the protein will help..... try the whey-tainer or whatever it's called it's a weight gainer but it also helps to work out while taking it....

as far as eating before bed that's like the worst thing you can do, mind you i'm guilty of it every once in a while, but like no spleeny said your body shuts down at night, and all that fat in the food you've just eaten won't get burned up at all, hence it will be stored.... taking protein at night is a different story because at night your muscles repair more than during the day and your body will use the protein to do that!

ya and no.... that's why sometimes you see guys that are HUGE in their upper body, and have tiny skinny legs... what kind of work outs do you do? you have to be more specific! high reps low weight? low reps high weight? do you do a rotation? do you do the same thing every time you work out??

hey...it depends if you work out or not..
if you do
try some whey protien...
or buy weight gainer i think it's called mamoth...

i use to take the protien..got from 140-150 lbs...then i started to take creatine... got to 168....

i manage to keep the weight after getting off the substances.....but i plan to go back this summer..to reach my new goal of 180 lbs... keep in mind..i'm only 5'10 ...weighing 180 lbs would be just nice..not too big..not skinny....

so..if u work out..use some protien mix, etc...

if not....just eat a lot .. make sure you always have snacks.. boost/life is good to have to keep protien up during the day...

well..hope i helped..

If you want to put on weight, try ensure... I'm pretty sure most drugstores have it.. it's a really sweet milk shake, so mix it half and half with milk...
That's what they use in the hospitals to help people maintain their weight.
Good luck

Protein repairs muscle tissue. If you want to gain weight, eat lots of carbs.
I was 185 and was comfortable but wanted mass. I got up to 215 and didn't feel comfortable. Now I'm back down to 195 and still trying to get back down to 185. But what do I know, I own a "Riced" out civic!

Carbs eh.. I just wanna gain weight, 95lbs 5'6-7 is pathetic.

I've seen Ensure at Drug Mart... but than I'd figure Boost would be similar to it. Can I drink these shakes and look for something " High in Carbs ". I still wont get fat by eating alot of junk food (McDonalds in particular)... argh.

I do high weights, low reps (between 8-10 a set) and i do rotate what i work on... i'll work on chest and back one day, shoulders the next, and arms the day after and bicycling for like 5-10 min before and after each workout...

oh also, one more thing... i just bought a tub of protein called "ultra whey more XP"... the prob is it doesn't say how many times to take it in a day, only how much you should put in a beverage... and when is the best time to take it? before, during, or after a workout?

Thanks again
