Civic, Accord power sales gain for Honda in June
Healthy sales gains for Honda Motor Co. Ltd.’s most popular vehicles helped its U.S. sales grow 6 percent in June, capping a turnaround first half for the Japanese automaker.
The company’s Torrance, Calif.-based American Honda Motor Co. sales arm reported sales of 106,627 vehicles last month, up from 100,420 the same month a year ago. The company’s flagship division reported a 4 percent sales gain with 95,788 vehicles sold, while sales of its luxury Acura-division models soared 31 percent to 10,839.
Honda’s Civic and Marysville-made Accord models each reported sales of more than 26,000 vehicles for the month, posting double-digit percentage sales gains as a result. The East Liberty-made CR-V small sport-utility vehicle, meanwhile, reported a 17 percent sales gain.
Powering the hefty monthly sales gain in the Acura division were the nameplate’s MDX and Marysville-made RDX sport-utes, each of which reported gains of more than 50 percent in June.
In the first half of the year, Honda’s U.S. sales grew 12 percent to 593,909 vehicles, up from 530,778 a year ago. Honda-division sales grew 11 percent to 532,792 vehicles while Acura sales jumped 20 percent to 61,117 vehicles.
Honda bases its North American production headquarters in Marysville. The company ranks among Central Ohio’s biggest private employers with about 7,400 workers, according to Columbus Business First research
