obd2 -> obd1

hi... first need to admit that im kinda new at this whole frankenstiening import thing...

ok thats out of the way!

mechanic told me to look for obd1 computer but will also need conversion harness.

I own 99 ek (d series motor non v-tec)

question is what years are obd-1? Out of what cars should i be looking for? And how do i find one of these harness converters?

Thanks for looking and your time!

92 to 95 is considered OBD1. 96 to 98 is OBD2-A, and 99-00/01 is OBD2-B.

Whatever swap you do, 92-95 EG ECU or Teg ECU will do the trick for you (just matter of rechipping it).

Conversion harness, you can go with Skunk2, or homemade harness by local professionals. Price range from 100 to 150.

Whatever swap you do (not sure about K), use your own harness.

I have been told that going to OBD-1 when doing a B-series engine swap (engine being OBD-2) is a good idea because it is "easier" to tune an OBD-1 ECU. But what if someone wants to stay with the OBD-2 ECU for emissions purposes. What options are available for tuning an OBD-2 ECU? This is something I have been wondering for a while.

Everyone talks about p28 chip this and that using Crome, Hondata... No one talks about OBD-2...

no one chips obd2 ecu's, apparently its very difficult and you need expensive parts.

To stay obd.. you'll need to pick up an obd2 ecu from your motor. so if you swap a b18b you'll need an obd2 p75 ecu

Ok, this is still related the the original post. I've heard that there are emissions issues when switching from ob2 to obd1. Because obd2 vehicles have stricter emissions regulations. How do obd2 -> obd1 swaps pass emissions?

If all us obd2 people could just stay obd2... that would be awesome.

well you could always switch back to your original obd2 ecu (disconnect to obd2-obd1 conversion harness) to run an etest.

I currently drive a 99 that was coverted from OBD-IIb to OBD-I. I have passed every emissions test to date. I am using a P30 ECU but they can be pretty expensive around $150-$200. It works great though on my B16. My converter harness I bought from E-bay for $90 and its been great for the last 2 years.

Brand (The Prophet) just recently passed an etest with his obd2-obd1 converted EK hatch with a b16 running a chipped p28 and stock b16 program.
