Your D series vtec only has 127 hp with about 116 torque. The thing about the non vtec b series engine's is they are high in torque and have more hp then a d series non or vtec engine, not to mention they are DOHC

as reliable as any other honda engine
just check out how many people have b18b swaps, its cheap, effective and a good start to build upon.
it also depends on your price point as well... i could say do a b18c5 swap but thats over your budget
so you have to figure out what exactly you want to do and accomplish, and see whether spending the money now on a b18b is worth it for you, or if you want to save more and have more "bang out of the hole" right away?
or would you be content with a b18b and then save up more for motor work later on to make more ponies
take a good long breather on this one and decide

well I mean for 975 on a B series engine sounds like a good price. Although I've never dealt w/teknotik so I'd call them up and have a chat about it. I would prefer to get the B18B1 and work on that, instead of the C5 for like 5000....but what I dont get is, How do i figure out the milage on these motors?

I've even considered the B18B swap just because it's so checp. More hp and torque then the stock D16.
The k's on these motors will generally be low. I think that in Japan, according to their emission laws, motors are replaced at a very low k. Thats why swaps are so popular and these motors are plentiful. Teknotic wouldn't be a TCC Affiliate if they were selling crap.

well you will need more than just the $975 engine. You will also need the tranny, axles, ecu, mounts, shift linkages...from teknotik this packages is $2775.
But its definately a better platform to start with if you really want to obtain your 170whp power goal. I mean you'd still be a long way from it, but the torque of the ls will impress you. And adding a vtec head is a great way to increase power, there's more to it than simply adding the vtec head. I mean for a powerful lsvtec you need to raise the compression and change the rod bolts, water pump and oil pump.
