Lets talk Rims and Tires!!!
Does anyone had any wheel and tire knowledge.
I have a 92 Hatch, with about a 1.5" drop.
I want to get some new rims and tires, the actual style of rim isn't an issue for me, preferably something light.
What the real issue is performance and livability.
BUT what I need to know is when are rims too big/wide?
When are tires to fat? When are profiles to low?
I know the Type R came with 15" rims so its my thinking that 16" rims may even be too big, but to definately stay away from 17"
How wide a tire should I be looking at?
I'm thinking of something like 195/50/R15
Is that decent?
Appearance is of no concern, pretty much ride quality and handling

if money is no concern I would suggest 15x6" RacingHart cp-035 on T1-S 195/50/15, expect to pay around c$4000.
if like me you want to keep things under 15 bills and/or going for the jdm look, get 15" rota slipstream (12lb, spoon knock-off) and some 195/50/15 rubber (right size for 5th gen, usually around 17-18lb). an aspect ratio of 50 should yield pretty decent ride quality. make sure you check online for reviews or post here before you buy tires 'coz some tires are oh so motherly loud and you may not want that. good luck.

wow, tire tech
The feed back is awesome guys.
I didn't really have a clue as to which direction I was going to go with the rim and tire issue, but I definately have an idea of what I want.
Its guaranteed that I'll be looking for 15's that fit 195/50s
Would 195/50 R15 fit a 15x7 or 16x6.5 rim?

Re: (finally, got internet back)
Good eye! yep I meant 15x7 or 15x6.5.
15x6 seem particularly hard to find, and I've taken a liking to the idea of getting 15" rota slipstreams, I think they look mint, and they fit in the whole entire 15" scheme.
Does anyone know where I can pick a set of those up and what they might cost me?

you meant 15x7 or 15x6.5, right? for 195, they should fit, the tire specs will tell you whether or not they do. ideally, I'd get 15x6, but I have yet to find a set that fits my taste and my budget. one more thing, if you're planning a brake upgrade which will involve increasing brake disc diametre, make sure you get rims big enough to accomodate the new brakes (ie, 15" may not always be enough) so you won't end up having to get another set of new rims.
