Well the mixture of the two may cause the fuel octane to drop low enough to detonate pre-ignition. I doubt it would matter in cars using 87 octane, but perhaps for the cars that require premium.

The purpose of the acetone is not for its own combustive properties but to reduce surface tension of fuel for greater atomization. Thats what the increase in fuel economy comes from, not because Acetone is a magical fuel.

3 tea spoons per tank isn't going to change the fuel consumption based around it combustive properties, and its not going to harm your engine.

Please let us know. There is a guy at work who saw something about some pills you can put in the tank in order to improve gas mileage. I am now curious too if this works or if it's just a scam.

OK, Mythbusters on discovery channel just did this exact test along with a pile of other supposedly fuel saving devices/myths.

As for acetone in the tank....BUSTED!!! It did absolutely nothing for fuel mileage during their test...

All the other things they tested did nothing either, some even made it worse!!!

They did prove that you can run a diesel engine on lightly filtered used french fry cooking oil, without any problems! now thats cool!

and it smells good too haha

anyways..the results were really nothing i could brag about.

In all honesty there was really no difference in my fuel consumption. People probably think they're getting better mileage because when performing the test most start driving like grannys.

I'm going to try it again with the full out 3oz (90mL)

15 bucks a gallon???? I think if I was a diesel car owner I'd keep putting diesel fuel in at that price

I get roughly 500 kms per tank... regular driving...

a great fuel saving thing you can do which requires no money is follow these rules: Granny Drummond's method of saving gas:

1) anything higher then 2000 RPM should never been seen.. if your at 2000 RPM shift

2) drive the speed limit sure it's slow but thats the point

3) Max speed of your car is 100 km/h

4) 5th gear is the only gear where you can go above 2000 RPM but you cannot exceed 100 km/h

5) when approaching a red light as soon as the light can be seen by you coast... no more gas and press the clutch down to allow the car to slow down on it's own.. this way your not wasting speed on brakes..

using those rules I managed to get my milage up to 650km/tank.

My car is not meant to be driven like that. It starts to run like poo after a couple of days of traffic. It needs to be opened up daily, I use the highway on ramps to run high revs through the gears until highway speed is reached.

lol i just installed a d15b 3-stage vtec and im getting over 700kms a tank. If i do all highway, i surely would get close to 800. I only use 12valves from idle to 5500rpm each gear. I still havent tuned my engine properly yet, so hopefully ill get more.
