"Hard Brake Pedal" 99 LX

Hey I'm having trouble with my mom's civic.

1999 LX 4Dr Sedan w/ rear drums.

Lately I noticed the brakes didn't feel good. So I inspected the front/rear brakes. Front pads/rotors were fine, pad thickness well above 70%.

However the rear drums/shoes were toast. I replaced the drums and shoes and braking is now "slightly better". Not much but bit better.

Now I still feel I really have to press the brakes for the car to stop. Its not smooth like my accord.

In my accord I don't have to travel as far "pedal distance" to have that braking feeling.

Where as in the civic i have to travel a further distance to even to get it to slow down nicelly.

However if i STOMP on the pedal the car will stop quickly like you'd expect.

I'm sorry if I'm not describing this properly but its a start.

Thanks any help would be appreciated.

I really want to avoid going to a shop for diagnostics but will do as a last resort.

I have new pads/rotors but didn't install them because the front brakes have so much life anyways but ordered them anyways.

BTW no vibration when braking either.

Air in your brake lines maybe?? bleed the system. See if you get a better brake pedal response.
