grinding sound?

When I drive my car for example: 25km at gear 1, 45-50km at gear 2.....

At this speed in the respected gears, the engine sounds a little loud (relatively) which is normal. The problem is, at the speeds above, when it reaches this point, my engine( or whatever) sounds like something is grinding or something. It's a rough grinding like sound... most times it happens sometimes no.

Any idea anyone?

it's when I reach that speed.... so say 25-20km in gear 1, i hear it and when I step on the clutch it goes away.....when i step on the clutch it's not like BAM sound goes away, when the rpm starts dropping a bit along with the speed then it goes away.. it all happens along this moment (25km gear 1 and in process of swtiching gears).....

ok your synchros sound lik ethey are shot ... or it's just the heatshield for the exhaust pinging in a certain RPM range ....the last one I've experinced ...... if you sit in your driveway with clutch all the way in and take the engine up to the same RPM range you'd be in for 1st going 25km/h (whatever that is) do you hear the sound if not I'd guess more towards tranny issues (possible synchros) if so then I'd lean more towards the heat shield of the exhaust

my heat shield is off right now...the sound was there then and there now.. so i guess it wouldn't be the heat shield...
how much work/cost is the syncros (if that is the problem) ?

Generally speaking, a good used tranny is a lot cheaper than replacement for a synchro. One synchro is like $300...

However, I would not agree that this is the problem. I think it's impossible to say what it is w/o further diagnosis. I'm not saying it's NOT the synchros, it's too hard to say from what you've given us.

I say main driveline bearing..

I know exactly what your talking about! My crx has that right now too and the problem is from the tranny. I've driven it like that for over a year now though.. I haven't checked out the problem exactly, but your better off with a used tranny as Bruno said.

say it is my synchros.... does this really degrade the performance of my car and will it start creating other problems??
I have no cash for a new tranny right now...

It's not synchros... another bearing though.. pilot, input shaft... those come to mind. Input shaft bearing most likely, but again... can't say with any certainty. This is not a problem that will go away if you ignore it. Have it fixed at Buddah's shop or Altech.

To the tranny... depending on which bearing it is... possibly, anything else.... not likely. So if you plan to get a used tranny and swap (recommended) you can wait till it fails... or a more convenient time to replace it. I do everything in the summer so my cars run top nothch in winter time.
