hold wheel at 6 and 12 and check for play. Also spin the wheel and see if you hear anything.

A good ear can just tell by a road test.. When you brake does it pull to one side?

No im not thinking caliper. I'm thinking wheel bearing..

But it could be your dust shield as well.

i think if its a wheel bearing his car would sound like a train at normal speeds. i would think that it's a lower ball joint that can cause that noise. you don't have to necessarily feel play in it but it will be all rusted on the inside and that can cause the noise you're describing.

left turns transfer weight onto the right wheel bearing.... i repeat again, check the wheel bearing! yes it could be ball joint too, but only WHILE actually turning the steering wheel so that's unlikely. if I understand correct, this noise lasts the entire length of the turn? of so, then not balljoint. it could be brakes too I suppose, but again I'd start with the right wheelbearing. you check it by jacking up the car and check the wheel for play independent from the susp/steering (ie. lock the steering wheel)
