Believe it or not, the car lost 6-7 hp
Are you saying the the higher octane gas produced less power? On what motor? What kinda setup did it have?

I don't remember exactly, but I believe it was a Mustang.

Higher octane fuel will burn slightly slower than a lower octane fuel. You will need a change in ignition timing. Using more octane than you need will not increase power, however the slower burn rate will actually decrease power.

That would make sense. I used regular gas in my old engine but when i tried supreme just for kicks it ran like crap...

I swear by Shell 92 octane -- love Easy Pay and Air Miles, too

However, I was convinced to try Sunoco's 94 octane. Filled it up halfway (less weight!!!) twice now. The car has never run worse. I am so disapopointed. Was looking for that extra 'something'. Nothing. Just engine noise that may be a coincidenece, or a problem with 94/ignition. Now, there are 220Ks on the ol' Vtec. From what I am reading, it may prove a detriment to use such a high octane. I am filling up with Shell 92 before the meet tonight. After two tanks, I'll report back with my findings.

Realized that last night at fillup. I'll report on the 91. Feels better already, though.

In my Greddy Turbo manual there was a little note "Fill up with min. 92 octane"... I use Sunoco 94 ALWAYS!!! And every 3rd to 4th fillup I put in the 7 point octane booster by NOS.... I love it every time I put in the octane booster I get a "theoretical" 101 octane level and I do notice how smoother, quieter and MUCH more responsive the engine is..... But then it could just be a placebo affect.... Damn these placebo's gettin expensive!!!!
