disconnect the low pressure side of the steering rack and crank (but don't start) the motor (pull the coil plug out so it won't start)

turn the wheel side to side as you are doing this

put in new fluid and you're done

cuz i had power steering fluid in
then i went to crappy tire
bought theres and just dumped it in
but now i hear its bad for it

If you had power steering fluid in and then put Cdn. tire power steering fluid in, its ok. As long as its the same stuff......hence "power steering fluid"

Actually, how often should we do a power steering system drain? The owner's manual doesn't seem to say anything about that. How do we determine if it's time to drain it?
