coolant draining

coolant draining
im trying to drain the coolant out of my d16z6 (95 si), but i cant find the two drain plugs on the block anywhere. im using the haynes manual to try and find them..
the first looks like its near the exhaust manifold somewhere and i can't find it. the second is near the oil filter mount but the pic is different slightly than my car and i still cant find that one either. (im thinking the pic is from a 1.5 L engine?)
basically, can anyone give me some better directions to finding them, id really appreciate that, since the haynes book just gives a crappy low-res picture.

remove the lower rad hose and drain the block that way. you can run the engine with no coolant for a few minutes, it's no biggie. if you wanna flush it, just keep hose water coming in through the upper rad hose and it'll drain down through the lower one.

I am flushing mine too, I found the two ghey bolts Haynes is talking about, what a pain in the a$$. Bruno's idea is way better.
The hose water won't corrode the rad or cause cloggage?
Any anti-freeze is good enough for the mixture? 50% distilled water right? Any tips in mixing the juice?

tip for mixing the "juice":
pour some water in say an empty coolant bottle so that the bottle is full. Let it sit for a few days.
then take ur new bottle of antifreeze and pour half of it out into another container...so u don't waste half a bottle of antifreeze.
then pour the water that's been sittin for a few days into the antifreeze bottle...viola half and half mixture....and u don't half to pay extra for a premixed bottle...and u have 2 50/50 mixes of coolant.

to answer the question... just RUNNING the water through won't cause anything. but DON'T FILL YOUR RAD WITH hose water. I always use distilled water. For $0.99 it's not a big investment. As for mixing... the capacity is about 4 liters. So pour in 1/2 the antifreeze bottle, and then 1/2 the gallon jug of distilled water. Perfect mix every time Run the car and top it off with distilled water as needed.

I'm worried that sticking a hose and shooting might flush out the radiator but I don't think the clean water will get a chance to enter the block that way. I'm thinking of unhooking the upper rad hose then blasting water into the radiator to allow for the water to make a complete cycle inside the block then come back out through the upper rad hose that is disconnected and aimed to a bucket or something. Assuming of course the water pump doesn't work against the flow.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the flow of water goes from the upper hose through the block, down into the lower hose and back up the rad. The Chilton/Haynes manuals show the flow of coolant, check your manual. Do as I say, not as I do

is mixing a must?? can't i just buy a full bottle of coolant and pour it in?
and as for flushing the rad.. what you guys were all talking about.. you mean stick the hose nozel into the opening where i poor in the coolant directly into the rad?

Yes, stick it in there with the water running while the engine is on for a few minutes so it flushes everything out. As for the mixing, you gotta read the bottle to see how you should mix it for the summer. Certain mixtures are better for cold tempteratures and certain ones for hot temperatures. If you just put coolant in by itself, the outcome would be nasty.
