CEL, no vtec, battery draining, pulling codes from obd1 converted car

Something went horribly wrong with my car tonight.
I hadn't given the car a spirited drive for a very long time. So I cruised out to the middle of nowhere and took the car for a few pulls.
On the last pull, WAM.
My speedo stopped working, my cel came on, vtec doesn;t work.
I barely made it cause my battery seems to be draining.
If I press my brakes, my tach stops working and my abs light comes on.
If I signal, the abs light signals with it.
My car is a 97' el with a type-r.
It's been converted to obd1 with a p28.
Id like to pull the code, how do you do it in converted cars?
Thanks for the help, I'm going nuts.
-Dom

check your alternator fuse under the dash. i had the same thing happen to me exactly, but i ended up changing the alternator, only finding out later it was the fuse.

i bet it is fried. i know in my car it was fuse #15 but refer to your panel diagram to make sure.

to check the CEL code in your car is the same as when it was obd2, only every time you restart your car you reset the codes. when i check mine i make sure it has thrown the code again, and then check it by jumping the little blue service connector located just above the obd1 conversion harness. usually a paperclip will do the trick. look for the CEL to blink the code at ya.

hope this helps!

trace your wiring up from your stock harness. not too far up there should be a blue service connector. it might have a brown rubber jacket on it if its never been used before.

I dotn know how many times i tell mike that the guy who did his swap instead of using a paperclip he CUT the Harness of the Service connecter and just spliced the wires together to check codes after the swap. I Told mike this like 2 weeks ago im sure if you look you will find the wires : I remember like almost 6 months ago Eric was saying that he cut it off.

Dom that SUCKS how much kms did that motor have when you picked it up? Just wondering... and if you need any help with the car im down just call adam to call me.

Sounds like you have a bad wire or broken connection somewhere. Possibly a bad ground or something of the likes. I have had similair problems on customer cars and its usually something like that.

If you would like I can have a look at it for you, only stipulation is will it drive and can you get it to my shop.

I am located in the Keele & Steeles area, if you are close to that I can take a look at the car for you if you like.

Regardless, send me a PM and hopefully I can help you get straightened out.

Thanks for the help everyone.
I believe during the pull I hit a puddle and water may of shorted the alternator/vss circuit.
I pulled the code, the VSS and alternator run from the same circuit, when the fuse popped, probably took the vss with it.
I somehow made it home 45min + drive on the battery charge, sure I barely made it, but I did.
Repalced the small 7.5 fuse and she's as good as new.

The service connecter was easy to find, it was just danglng.
I think the wire was brown/grey.

Well it keeps popping the fuse.
It was fine for 2 days and then within a kilometer, I popped the fuse twice.
Something is shorting...I just gotta figure out what. In the mean time, ride with 7.5a fuse's lol....
