Honda Power Steering Fluid just BS?

I have a leak in my Power Steering rack. At first I was putting in the Honda specific fluid but it got expensive. So I decided to buy the cheap stuff from Walmart at $4 a liter (Bottle claims "good for most import cars") rather than pay $5 for 355ml. What do you know? It works just as good, and it didn't foam up.

Here's my question. Has anyone else tried non "Honda" Approved Power Steering fluid and it worked just fine??

Fixing it is the plan. Probably within the next month or so. I'm going to go all out and inner outer tie rods, control arms, ball joints, swaybar links. Plus a used steering rack but I wanted to find out if I should bother putting in the "Honda" approved stuff or just go with the regular stuff. I'll probably end up putting the Honda Fluid anyways to be safe but I want to find out if other people have used the cheep stuff without any trouble.

in a bind you can use the "other stuff" but you should be using the honda use stuff...they make it for a reason...same with VW they have their own stuff

As long as it meets the same DOT specs it shouldn't matter.
