check engine light

ok probably a stupid scenario but im confused....anyways, changed my oil today and my dad suggested i used his oil pump instead of the drain plug so i did...changed the oil, everything was fine, later on tonight, my check engine light comes on, and now im idling at around 16, 1700 rpm...so im like wtf...maybe too much oil?...sure enough theres a lot, so i drain it properly, and fill it properly...check engine light still on and still idling really high...what could be the problem??? any suggestions, i gotta take this car on a 3 hour drive 2 ways saturday morning...so i wanna be sure it will be ok...btw its a 98 si...thanks for any input in advance..

you used his oil pump? what?

Reset the ecu and let it re-learn itself. (assuming the oil is at its proper level)
