Car has problems accelerating properly every so often

Hey guys, my friends car is having a odd problem with acceleration recently. When she's sometimes in gear 1-4, under 3000rpm the car seems to have a decrease of power/acceleration then it will pick up a bit after.

this issue started within the past 1 month or so, but it seems to be happening more and more now.

The engine is stock, no mods to it besides CAI. This problem started happening recently and it's just like the car is lacking fuel when accelerating so you get this 'shaky' feeling. Car is running on a full tank of gas, recently filled also.

I've changed the oil + filter, but that didn't do anything. I'm not sure what else to go after.

Timing has not been messed with at all and ECU is stock aswell.
-No CEL light
-idle is fine, everything seems normal till you start driving it

Any ideas on how to pin-point what the cause of this could be?

thanks!

so if you step on the gas.. it pauses, then it picks up? How long of a pause?

or

when you step on it there just is no power untill high rpm's?

Correct...

It's like, you step on it and it will accelerate but it will seem to 'bogg' and not accelerate as it would normally.

It's odd because sometimes this will happen and sometimes it will be fine.

could be several things.. clogged cat, dirty air filter, etc.

Something is being restricted

I too am having this problem. I have a feeling mine is related to the spark plugs though, as it has been a while since I changed them.

could be one or more of the following

weak spark (bad timing, bad distributor, bad wires or plugs)

that is all....

if it was a fuel problem or a clogged cat, it would happen higher up in the rpm range.... think about it, more RPM=more demand for fuel.... and if it was a clogged cat same thing.... higher air flow in higher RPM.

run your spark down and figure it out.

oh also.... it COULD be an overfueling problem from like a bad engine coolant temp sensor or injector stuck open.

Edit: Fuel Filter didn't fix the issue

Today I replaced the spark plugs with plugs from my b18b and the car runs great!

now the issue is fixed :P

a civic i worked on had the same prob. it was the ign coil. I would check the resistance between the two primary terminals, and the resistance between the coil tower (secondary ter.) and primary terminals. compare with SPECS.
