car doesnt go into any gear

RSX-S K20 motor

Car was in an accident

The car does not go into any gear besides 5th gear. The shifter doesn't even move. I unhooked the linkages at teh tranny and tried to physically shft the gears, but it doesn't go into any gears. So i know the problem is not with the shifter. Could it be that the mechanism on the top of the tranny has been ****ed or could it be an issue with the tranny itself. The damage to the car did not cause any physical damage to the tranny, but might have caused damage to the moving cmponents on the top of the transmission where the linkages/cables attach.

Any suggestions?

could of moved the shift forks inside. Or they could be jammed good (i've seen it on a Ford tranny that i pulled apart last month)

maybe the tranny fluid leaked out and screwed the internals.

i guess my post wasnt much help.

Try disconnecting the shfit linkages and shifting it manually. (not a very good idea to do with a sitting transmission cause sometimes if they sit long enough they can stick, but looks like your gona have to do it) You'll really have to shift it though, no girly shifts, theres no MA at the tranny lol

i tried smashing in the gears with the shifter with no luck. tranny fluid is fine and has not leaked out. i removed the linkages and moved the mechanism manually to shift the gears but that doesnt work either. I can only shift into 5th. Will not go into the rest no matter how much i smash the sifhter or manipulate the mechanism at teh top of the tranny with teh linkages disconnected

Could it be that the mechanism at the top is bent? It looks perfectly fine and nothing was pushed into it.

your shift forks probably fell out of place with the impact.

Time to pull the transmission and find out

is this the first case of this happening? is it common for shift forks to fall out of place?

How hard and where/how was it hit?

Did it hit one of the front wheels? If so did it hit from the side?

It is possible the tranny internals were damaged/jammed from the impact as chris_si98 stated.

clutch feels normal. car was not hit from sides at all, just light tap at the front. i dunno if the tranny stopped working as a result of the accident or if the person who had it before pooched the tranny and then just smashed it to write it off.

i think chris is right and it has to do with the shift forks being out of place because even the shift pattern is ****ed up. it goes into 5th but 5th is not where 5th is supposed to be.

the 5th shift fork is in a seperate casing, that's why 5th works. Even though the levers are pretty much in the same spot.

Either way.. the transmission needs to be pulled.. sorry bout your luck
