get the cleaner man.... besides, with k&n's, theyre supposed to be cleaned every 50000 MILES...
so its all good.... actually ive heard some ppl say they work better when theyre a lil dirty... when i had my civic i never cleaned it once and i had it for about 2 years (i was goin to clean it eventually) and all was fine.

if you do wanna clean it ill show you, its childs play, you just wont have a filter for about a day while its bein cleaned... its cheaper to clean than replace

Jeff. Just clean it like everyone else said. Not hard at all. Makes a whole world of difference once it's cleaned.

1. Remove any debris from the filter (shake it brush it out but not so hard as to damage the filter webbing)
2. Spray filter with cleaner. Let it soak in and rinse out with H2O from hose or whatever is convenient. Do this until clean. The filter should look kind of white or beige.
3. Make sure filter is thoroughly dry.
4. Apply oil.

It all depends on how long the filter takes to dry.

Hope this helps ya.

okay - it's just degreaser (read: palmolive) and spray oil (read: WD-40)

Don't waste your money on the kit - you have the other stuff already.

When I got my ractive filter I sprayed WD-40 on it. It dries up quickly. I doubt it did/does anything. I've yet to clean it.

I'm finding it hard to believe the oil is the same as WD40.

1. PRE-CLEANING
Tap the element to dislodge any large embedded dirt, then gently with a soft bristle brush.

2. SPRAY ON CLEANER
Spray K&N Air Filter Cleaner liberally onto the entire element and let soak for 10 min.

3. RINSE OFF
Rinse off the element with low pressure water. Tap water is OK. Always flush from the cleen side to the dirty side. This removes the dirt and does not drive it into the filter.

4. DRYING HINTS.
Always dry naturally. After rinsing, shake off all excessive water and let element dry naturally.
DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR
DO NOT USE OPEN FLAME
DO NOT USE HEAT DRYERS EXCESS HEAT WILL SHRINK THE COTTEN FILTER MEDIA COMPRESSED AIR WILL BLOW HOLES IN THE ELEMENT

5. CLEANING HINTS.
Useonly K&N Air filter Cleaner.
NO gasoline cleaning.
NO strong detergents.
NO steam cleaning.
NO high pressure car wash.
NO caustic cleaning solutions.
No parts cleaning solvent.

Any of the "NO'S" can cause harm to the cotton filter media, plus shrink and harden the rubber end caps.

6. OILING
After cleaning air filter re-oil before using. Spray K&N Air Filter Oil down into each pleat. Wait 10 min and re-oil any white spots still visible.

Thats word for word from this ****. If you spend $400 on a cold air intake, why not buy the kit for $15 dollars and clean it properly.

Happy:

Palmolive is a heavy detergent. W-D 40 is the cheepest water (I mean oil) you can buy.

3. RINSE OFF

that means run it under the tap.....
run the water from the clean side (inside) to the dirty side(outside)

the oil is not the same as wd-40 if you spray kn oil on you hand then spray wd40 you will notice the difference k&n oil has a stickiness to it while wd 40 dosen't. I've cleaned so many foam filters in my day it's rediculous (I rode motocross bikes most my life) and that oil is like glue
